BOOK REVIEWED: "Love Rules: The Ten Commandments for the 21st Century"
REVIEWER: Gregg Cantelmo, from KPXQ Radio, Chandler, Arizona
REVIEW: "
The place of the moral law in relation to the gospel has become one of the most controversial issues for the evangelical church today. The result is confusion about important doctrines such as the nature of justification and sanctification. This small volume (118 pages), written by a number of contributors (all reformed), is offered as a contemporary introduction to the theological and ethical explanation of the Ten Commandments. The first three chapters form the introduction to the Ten Commandments as well as provide one of the finest overviews of the relationship between law and love. Anyone teaching a series on the Ten Commandments would do well to read these chapters. Subsequent chapters work through each of the Ten Commandments providing strong theological foundation as well as practical application. Each chapter ends with “The Bottom Line,” a summary of the main points covered in that chapter. The concluding chapters cover the topic of the flow of redemptive history and the Jesus’ teaching on the moral law. This is a wonderful overview of the Ten Commandments rich in theology and firmly grounded in the gospel.
