Hunter Street Baptist Church Celebrates 100 Years

We at Banner of Truth are, of course, well acquainted with the Bookstore at Hunter Street Baptist Church outside Birmingham, Alabama (2600 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL). If you live in, or are visiting the Birmingham area, I know you'd be able to find some Banner books on the shelves there and, from what I hear, enjoy some of the best coffee in the area, too. But I didn't know until just recently that this past Sunday, the church celebrated its centennial milestone - 100 years! May the Lord continue His richest blessings upon His work in that area.

Thanks, Steve! It was a great weekend here at Hunter Street and we are thankful for the history God has given us, but the best is yet to come!

Our pastor had us all stand up at one point during our worship service Sunday morning. He then said to the 90 year olds and older "God is Faithful" to which the few in the crowd responded "Yes, He is!" He then moved to the 80-90 range "God is Faithful. "Yes, He is!" He continued on through the 70's, 60's, 50's, etc.. You could tell where the bulk of our congregants lie as the 40's and 50's were the loudest thus far. Then, we reached the 13-20 range and there was a loud roar "Yes, He is!" The best part, however, is what followed. He then said to all of the 12 years and younger in our congregation: “God is Faithful.” To which a much shorter genre said in those pre-adolescent, pure hearted voices: “Yes, He is.” This is the future of Hunter Street, and by God’s grace and through the faithful preaching of His inerrant word, we too, will agree with the psalmist and say, “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts” (Psalm 154:4 ESV).

I will send you a link to our brief video history when it becomes available. Humbling to say the least...
